After over a year of public testing and improvement, Divi 5 is officially exiting the beta phase today. This isn’t the finish line; it’s a fresh start for Divi, and you can expect even faster development moving forward.
It’s going to be an exciting year!
I cover everything in the video below, including how to upgrade to Divi 5 and migrate your websites. 👇
Getting To Know Divi 5
Firstly, we know that Divi 5 is a significant change, and that you may need more time to adapt, especially if your third-party plugins are not ready. For that reason, we will continue to support Divi 4 for at least the next 12 months, and longer if practical, while continuing to fix security and compatibility issues with new WordPress versions.
There’s no rush. The release of Divi 5 should be exciting, not stressful. Take it at your own pace.
If you don’t opt in to Divi 5 updates, you’ll stay on the Divi 4 update path.
First Things First: Explore Divi 5’s New Features

Next, Take Divi 5 For A Spin On A Staging Site
When you’re ready, upgrade to Divi 5 on a staging site, run the migrator, and poke around for a bit to make sure everything looks good. If you run into any issues, let us know; we’ll focus on fixing any newly identified migration issues in the immediate future.
Here’s how to upgrade and migrate. 👇
Upgrading Websites From Divi 4 to Divi 5
I cover everything, step by step, in this YouTube video. Check it out if you prefer a visual walkthrough.
⚠️ Note: Always make a backup of your website before upgrading, or upgrade on a staging site.
Enabling Divi 5 Updates
Switching to the Divi 5 upgrade path is optional. To opt in to Divi 5 updates, navigate to the Divi > Dashboard page in your WordPress admin.
Click the “Enable Divi 5 Updates” button to switch to the Divi 5 upgrade path. You will instantly see a Divi 5.0.0 update notification.
Upgrade to Divi 5 via the Dashboard > Updates page in the WordPress admin.
Backward Compatibility Mode
As soon as the update finishes, your website will be using Divi 5. However, it has not yet migrated and is running in backward compatibility mode.
Backward compatibility mode is a bridge between Divi 4 and Divi 5. It allows unconverted Divi 4 modules to run on the front end before migration. If you visit the front end of your website, you will see an orange notice in the admin bar indicating that the page has not yet been converted.
Any page that contains a legacy Divi 4 module will run in backward compatibility mode. In this mode, everything will function on the front end, but you won’t be able to use all of Divi 5’s new features or benefit from Divi 5’s performance improvements.
To access those, you need to migrate your website.
Migrating Your Websites
Migrating your website will convert all Divi 4 modules on your entire website. It takes one click to migrate, and less than a minute to complete on most websites.
Navigate to the Divi > Divi 5 Migrator page.
As soon as you open the page, it will scan your website and look for Divi 4 modules. Then it will generate a report of all modules ready for conversion.
If your websites contain third-party modules that haven’t been updated for Divi 5 yet, the migrator will warn you that some modules won’t be converted. These modules will continue to run in backward compatibility mode.
If/when the developer of those modules creates a Divi 5 upgrade path, you can revisit the migrator and rerun it to migrate those modules. In the meantime, pages using incompatible modules will continue to function in backward compatibility mode.
Click “Migrate This Website To Divi 5” to run the migrator. It will go through all pages that contain Divi 4 modules and convert them. Once complete, your website is ready to go!
What If Something Goes Wrong?
After the migrator runs, visit your website on the front end and poke around. If you spot anything that looks off, let our team know, and we will address the issue.
There may be cases where custom CSS used with Divi 4 modules may need to be tweaked slightly to work with Divi 5.
If anything goes wrong, don’t worry. Restore your backup or unstage the changes from your staging site.
What if you didn’t make a backup?
You should really make a backup, but if you forgot, the Divi 5 Migrator has your back. When it runs the conversion, it stores a backup copy of the Divi 4 post content.
If you made the mistake of migrating a live website to Divi 5, and you want to switch back to Divi 4, return to the migrator and click the “Restore Divi 4 Content” button. Doing so will restore your website’s migrated post content to its state before conversion.
WordPress also stores post revisions, which you can use to restore your unconverted content.
Next, visit the Divi > Theme Options > Updates page and roll back to Divi 4.
Consider Sticking With Divi 4 Temporarily
There are legitimate reasons to stay on Divi 4; namely, if you are using third-party plugins that don’t support Divi 5.
If that’s the case, stick with Divi 4 for now, and let the developers know that Divi 5 compatibility is important to you. In the meantime, you can continue using Divi 4 while building new websites with Divi 5.
What About The Divi Builder Plugin?
We will be bringing the Divi 5 builder to the Divi Builder plugin next, and it will not require a lengthy beta phase. We will be updating each Divi-powered product one at a time. Everything starts with Divi.
The Future Of Divi Starts Today
Divi 5 has been a long time coming, but it was worth the wait.
We are now in a unique position, having freed ourselves of a decade of technical debt, completely re-envisioned the product on a modern architecture, and implemented all the features you have been requesting.
Divi 5 is fast, development is nimble, and we’re going to leave the competition in the dust; that’s my promise for 2026.
If you are enjoying Divi 5, do us a huge favor and let us know by liking this video and leaving a comment. It means a lot to us to see you cheering Divi on, and it’s essential to feed the algorithm and spread the word.
Don’t forget to follow us on YouTube and subscribe to the Divi newsletter so you never miss an update. I’ll see you soon for another Divi 5 feature announcement, which I promise will be right around the corner. 😁

Cheers for the new launch!, it took more than expected, our company already switched to elementor as the tech area got tired waiting for DIVI5, but I hope you keep the innovation pace, my personal projects are still on DIVI 5, and I hope many good things are there to come.
Wow do you miss out. 🙁
Congratulations on reaching this milestone!
It really does feel like crossing a finish line in a marathon, and now it’s time for the trophy. It’s been a hard journey for everyone, that’s clear, but I do believe the hard work will be worth it.
Looking forward to navigating the next decade of Divi with you!
Thank you so much, Nelson! It has certainly been a journey, but we truly believe the future of the Divi Builder and our entire ecosystem is brighter than ever thanks to this community and creators such as yourself. We can’t wait to see what you create during this next decade of innovation and design!
As a Divi module developer since Divi v1, there have been many bumps in the road getting to today. Time waits for no one as we know and competition in this field has only gotten more heated. Users will find, if they haven’t already, that D5 is far advanced in its capabilities than D4. With that, it is also more complex, so I am glad to see that you will give D4 life for the next twelve months. That time frame normally, these days anyway, is when WP sites today get makeovers. That in itself gives time to build a new look without worrying about migrating ;^)
We truly appreciate your perspective as a long-time developer, and we agree that the jump to Divi 5 represents a massive leap forward in performance and capability. Our goal with the extended support for Divi 4 is exactly what you mentioned – providing a stable bridge so our community can focus on creativity and fresh designs rather than rushing a migration. It is an exciting era for the Divi Builder, and we are thrilled to have veteran creators like you along for the ride. Thanks from the 💜!
Fantastic! 🙂
Big question though, I want to switch to Divi 5, but I use the Extra theme by yall on the site. Is Extra going to get updates, if not how would you best recommend switching?
Congratulations on the official launch of Divi 5! I’ve been using Divi for years, and in recent months I’ve been trying out Divi 5 and I have to say it’s a real innovation. I intend to migrate all my websites to the new Divi 5. I’ve been following all your efforts to deliver the best tools. Thank you very much!!!
I have been using Divi since version 3, and i think Divi 5 is a winner! I’ts so much better than 4 in terms of speed and functionality! I almost lost faith and switched to elementor a few times but I am glad i didn’t. It is a different way of working and you have to get used to it and it took me a week or so to settle into it and now I dont like using Divi 4. Great job Elegant Themes and cant wait for more updates!
We are thrilled to hear that you stuck with us and that the speed and functionality of Divi 5 have won you over! Our team has worked hard to ensure the new foundation provides a superior experience, and we appreciate your patience during the learning curve. We have plenty of exciting updates on the way, so stay tuned. Happy designing!
On a multisite, will I be able to migrate one site at a time or will they all update if I click the migrate button?
On a multisite network, the Divi 5 migration is managed on a per-site basis! When you activate Divi 5, you’ll use the Divi 5 Migrator within each individual subsite’s dashboard to run the compatibility report and initiate the transition. Hope this helps! 😊
Congratulations to Elegant Themes on finally releasing Divi 5 — a huge milestone after such a long journey.
I’ve followed Divi for years, waiting patiently for a real breakthrough.
Unfortunately, the wait has been far longer than it should have been.
During that time, newer builders like Bricks have risen and even surpassed Divi in popularity.
The biggest disappointment is that the long-promised performance improvements are still missing.
Speed was supposed to be the heart of Divi 5, yet it feels unchanged.
Even the importable templates don’t seem to reflect the new system’s true potential.
After all these years, this release feels more like a small step than a revolution.
I’m glad you managed to get to version 5, but for me personally, it’s not user-friendly or functional. Some time ago, I tried to set up a website with Woocommerce on one of the latest beta versions, and it turned out to be a nightmare for me. I wasted several days and nights trying to get the website up and running, but it turned out that the entire back panel of version 5 is so unintuitive and confusing that I couldn’t finish it. I had to scrap it as soon as possible and go back to version 4. So I wish you all the best and success with version 5 – I’m sticking with 4 and that’s not likely to change anytime soon 🙂
There isn’t an option in Divi 4 that isn’t in Divi 5 (many of the older options have been improved upon as well). So it’s more a matter of getting used to things, which will always take time.
Congratulations on finally getting Divi 5 over the line! I think it’s been about 4 years since Divi 5 was originally mentioned so I know it’s been a monumental effort. I love Divi 5 it’s awesome! Well done!
So excited about Divi 5 finally getting out of Beta! We’ve been designing sites with it for several months now during the Beta and our team is already loving it! So fast and smooth.
It’s awesome to hear that the new Divi Builder is already making your workflow smoother. Happy designing! 😊
Is there a list of 3rd party plugins that are already compatible with Divi5?
This would help me find the courage to try Divi5 on one of my Divi websites.
It’s very much a live situation. Its best to make a list of products you currently use yourself and check in with those creators.
I love Divi 5!!! to be honest I left Divi because it missed to.much of the modern builders… but you are totally back.
There is one big thing missing: the Divi Builder plugin. I love the query soo much and Infant use it in Gutenberg websites also! please upgrade the builder also!
We hear your excitement – thank you for the kind words! – and we are working hard to bring the Divi 5 speed and performance to the Divi Builder plugin as soon as possible. While the Divi 5 core is currently our main focus, the standalone plugin update is definitely on our roadmap. We appreciate your patience! 😊
There’s lots to like about Divi 5 but it’s really very different to 4 – please can you provide start to finish video ( not screenshot) tutorials so people understand things like presets and how the flex sections etc work really differently to ver 4. Help us setup efficiently from the beginning (not just install it, but optimally use it!) At the moment I’m just stumbling around with it and I’m sure doing everything the wrong – and long – way, doing far too much setting styles over and over again at module level, getting nowhere fast, due to lack of official tutorials from you guys. PLEASE!!! Also I have to say I’m really struggling with how small the icons and settings are in the GUI compared to 4…I know you’re squeezing a ton of stuff in but an option to size up the interface would be helpful, everything looks like tiny size 8 or 9 font and I just find it actually quite a lot more difficult than 4 from that perspective and a few others. It does load faster and crash less than 4 though. By the way, with you guys from literally the very beginning of ET, Many years before Divi, so I’m a very loyal user. I hope tutorials and (fingers crossed) a gui upsize will help me like v5 as much as I would really like to. Thanks guys.
